                                  Thanksgiving in preparation for
                                  Black Friday.

Last night, every Texas Walmart employee using Earnin - an app that gives people access to their pay as they earn it, right from their smartphones - received a surprise $100 as they walked out of their Thanksgiving shift. So far, more than 100 store workers across Texas received the cash gifts, and more are expected to find their surprise this morning after a long night shift.

Earnin worked with an anonymous donor who wanted to shine a light on those easily forgotten holiday heroes. Earnin was an easy way to deliver the unexpected cash gifts, as thousands of people use the app everyday to receive their day's pay.

The donor has no affiliation with Walmart, but chose Walmart employees in Texas as a representative cross-section of retail workers everywhere facing the holiday rush.

Earnin helps people at over 25,000 companies including Walmart, Starbucks, Apple and Home Depot access their pay everyday, instead of waiting for payday. Rather than charging interest or fees, Earnin asks users to pay what they think is fair.

Earnin users say using the app saves them millions of dollars a month in overdraft fees and interest. Still, Americans pay approximately $100 billion every year in overdraft and late fees, in large part due to the rigid pay cycle that holds over $1 trillion of unpaid wages.

EDITORS NOTE: Gift recipients are located in all Texas metros including Dallas/Ft. Worth; Houston; San Antonio; Austin; Harlingen-Brownsville-McAllen; Waco-Bryan-College Station and other cities. Earnin is in contact with gift recipients, and is working to identify those open to be interviewed.
