Massive Projection In Sedona, "The Most Beautiful Place On Earth"

SEDONA, Ariz., Dec. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The sheer scale of the mountain is almost dizzying, yet Philippe Bergeron of LA-based PaintScaping is determined to map it.

"Quite frankly it feels overwhelming," says Bergeron, as he prepares to head to Sedona AZ, to create "Sedona Northern Lights," the largest 3D mapping ever on a natural landscape in the U.S.

3D projection mapping is about creating new worlds, where the images are lined up with the architectural lines of the buildings. "A merging of the real and virtual, if you will," continues Bergeron, President and co-founder of PaintScaping.

PaintScaping is an industry leader in 3D mapping. With a client roster that boasts Rodeo Drive, Sony Pictures, Ritz-Carlton, as well as A-listers Rihanna, and Ariana Grande.

"But even with this kind of experience, this is a very scary job," explains Bergeron, "there's no instruction book on how to map a mountain." However, PaintScaping is one of a select few companies that have experience projecting on mountains. "We did this job for Sam Adams, projecting on skiers at Big Sky, the largest ski resort in the country," continues Bergeron. "So in that sense, we're ready for this. Bring it on!"

"We're very excited to create this experience with PaintScaping," explains Jennifer Wesselhoff, President of the Sedona Chamber of Commerce. "It's never been done at this scale."

The numbers are almost numbing. The size of the projection on Camelhead Rock is a whopping 600x400 ft. The projectors will be located more than 1l2 mile away, using 12 32k Barco projectors. And it will be visible from the entire village.

"But at the end, it's not about size, it's about the experience," notes Bergeron, himself an actor. Indeed Bergeron has been in over 60 film and TV shows, including Iron Man 2, Mad Men, Entourage, Rush Hour 3, Contact, E.R and Godzilla.

The theme of the show is the holidays. There's even an appearance by Sedona.

The woman, not the city.

Indeed, we meet a turn-of-the-century couple that dances to soaring holiday music. "Perhaps it's the ghost of Sedona Schnebly, and her husband TC, looking over us."

Sedona Northern Lights will launch the 60(th) anniversary of the Sedona Arts Center. The show will highlight Sedona's awe-inspiring landscape, and a thriving art scene.

Teaming up with the city of Sedona, Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau and the Sedona Arts Center, the large scale, 3D show will be visible from all of Uptown Sedona and Gallery Row, with the projection mapping taking place on the hour, beginning at 6p.m. and ending each evening at 9p.m. every night from December 14-17.

Spectators are encouraged to tune into KYBC and AM1600 for the audio that accompanies the show.
