John Steen Elected CPS Energy Board Chair

SAN ANTONIO, Jan. 30, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- John Steen, former Texas Secretary of State and Commissioner of the Texas Department of Public Safety, on Monday was elected Board Chair of the CPS Energy Board of Trustees. Steen has represented the northeast quadrant of the energy company's service territory since 2016.

"I'm honored to chair the Board of Trustees and truly appreciate the votes of support from the board for me," said Steen. "All of us acknowledge the extraordinary work Ed Kelly did during his tenure as Board Chair. He oversaw improvements in customer service, air quality, and operational efficiency, and it's my intention to continue those improvements during my tenure. We have an outstanding management team and strong employee base to support San Antonio and its economic development."

During 2017, Steen was the Committee Chairman for the company's 75th Anniversary celebration to commemorate city ownership since 1942.

"Leading that committee was such a wonderful experience. Given my family's deep roots in this community and the importance I place on continuing that strong community feeling, it was a natural committee to lead. And we were able to celebrate that significant milestone," Steen said.

Also during the monthly Board of Trustees meeting, Dr. Homer Guevara Jr. was elected Vice Chair of the Board. Guevara is an economics and government professor at Northwest Vista College and represents the southwestern quadrant of the CPS Energy service territory.

"I look forward to working closely with John to support our vision for the company," Guevara said. "These are exciting times in the utility industry because of new technologies and new developments that allow greater customer service, and, for those companies with a strong commitment to air quality, the opportunity to help our community have a cleaner environment. CPS Energy has those goals, and it's up to us on the Board to provide that leadership."
