Optomec Showcases Aerosol Jet 3D Printing Systems at Flexible Electronics Conference

Optomec, a leading global supplier of production grade additive manufacturing systems for 3D printed electronics, announced today that the company will showcase its Aerosol Jet systems for 3D production-grade printed electronics at the SEMI Flex conference, held this week at the Hyatt Regency in Monterey, California. Optomec will be offering live demonstrations of the Aerosol Jet 200 system in booth #2004. In addition to the exhibition, Dr. Kurt Christenson, Optomec Senior Scientist, will deliver a presentation titled “Electromagnetic Shielding of Flexible Devices” in the Direct Write and 3D Printing Session at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

In his presentation, Dr. Christenson will discuss how electronic circuits often require electromagnetic shielding to suppress radiated emissions from the circuit, and to protect the circuit against interference from external and internal electromagnetic sources. This is particularly true when devices contain both transmitting and receiving functions. The rigid, sheet-metal shells traditionally used for electromagnetic shielding cannot be used with flexible circuits. Dr. Christenson will describe how Aerosol Jet technology is able to deposit a film of conductive material around the perimeter of die, contacts and connections to flex circuits to form printed electromagnetic shielding barriers on both thin, flexible devices and thicker, rigid devices.
