U.S. Announces RFP for U.S. Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai

The U.S. Department of State announced today a Request for Proposal in the Federal Register (#2018-03116) for the fundraising, project management, design, construction, and operation of a U.S.A. Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The six-month long World Expo will take place from October 2020 through April 2021.

Please consult the Expo 2020 Theme Guide, Participant Guide, and Self-build Guide when preparing proposals. RFP submissions are due by Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Also, please consider registering at the Expo 2020 portal for regular announcements about business and other opportunities.

In partnership with the U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council and Expo 2020 Dubai, the State Department’s Expo Unit will hold a series of virtual and in-person information sessions over the next two months to highlight a range of opportunities for businesses and community leaders to participate in and support the U.S. Pavilion. These information sessions will take place in Washington, DC, New York, Detroit, Houston, and San Francisco. Additional updates on schedule and details on how to register for these events will be provided in subsequent announcements by the Business Council and other partners.

In November, 2013, the U.A.E. won the right to host the World Expo in Dubai 2020, marking the first time in its history that World Expo is staged in the Middle East. Dubai World Expo is held under the theme of “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” and will comprise unprecedented global scope, highlighted by the sub-themes of Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability. Expo 2020 Dubai will highlight the U.A.E.'s national Golden Jubilee by underscoring the country's leading role as a global hub for commerce, culture, and diplomacy in the 21st century.

The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council has served as a partner to the U.A.E. since the inception Dubai's bid process with the BIE and has assisted the Expo Committee at every step along the journey. In 2013, the Business Council established a Standing Committee, in cooperation with American and Emirati partners, to interface with U.S. and U.A.E. government authorities to advocate on behalf of business opportunities and institutional partnerships between Americans and Emiratis wishing to participate in the World's Expo 2020 Dubai.

The Business Council has worked closely with the U.S. Government to help build awareness and support on the importance of a U.S. Pavilion at Expo 2020 as a platform to showcase U.S. best-in-class offerings and institutions. The U.S.-U.A.E. Business Council will now continue collaborating with the U.S. Department of State as a strategic partner on the bid process for launching the U.S.A. Pavilion.
