Oatey Facility Achieves Leed Gold Status

Oatey Co. (Oatey), a leader in the plumbing industry since 1916, has achieved LEED NC Gold Status for its new Customer Support Center located in Emerald Corporate Park in Cleveland. Opened in October 2016, the Customer Support Center serves as Oatey’s corporate headquarters and is a state-of-the-art, sustainable, and energy-efficient facility.

The 47,000-square-foot building bordering the Cleveland Metroparks, an extensive system of nature preserves, offers employees access to daylight, views of the park, and connection to nature, which helps to foster well-being at work.

The sustainable design elements of the facility are a direct response to Oatey’s focus around reducing long-term energy costs and water consumption. Key areas that earned credits toward the Gold certification included Project Location and Site Selection, Diversion of Construction Waste from Landfills, Water Conservation, Reduction of Overall Energy Usage, Green Power, Renewable and Recycled Project Materials and Enhanced Indoor Air Quality.

To reduce water consumption, the facility includes water saving elements such as flush fixtures which utilize rainwater captured in a cistern outside the building. Drought-resistant and native plant varieties were carefully chosen to complement the park and architecture. The interior and exterior of the building were designed holistically to capitalize on views and to blend in with the landscape.
