Harlequin Marks International Women's Day With a Campaign Celebrating the Powerful, True-life Stories of its Authors

TORONTO and NEW YORK, March 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Harlequin today announced the launch, on International Women's Day, of a social media campaign spotlighting the unique personal and professional backstories of several of its romance authors. Through blog posts, video clips, tweets and photos montages, the publisher will tell the stories behind several of its bestselling novelists who achieved success in dynamic careers before becoming published authors.

"So many Harlequin authors have lived their own remarkable stories," explained Loriana Sacilotto, EVP, Editorial. "From the youngest female pilot in US Air Force history to a forensic photographer recognized for her work after the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma to a leather artisan for rock royalty and so much more, our authors have led incredible lives. We are proud to be their publisher and thrilled to be able to share a glimpse into some of their fascinating histories. They are a testament to the amazing strength in lived experience our authors bring to their storytelling."

Merline Lovelace, a decorated Air Force veteran who became an award-winning romance author after 23 years of service noted, "I loved the awesome responsibility I was given at every stage of my military career and I loved being part of that unique brother-and sisterhood of arms. So, I am honored to be able to share my unique perspective as a woman warrior in my novels. Most of my heroes and heroines are also warriors--whether they wear the skirt of a Roman centurion, medieval armor or an Air Force flight suit. With 102 published novels under my belt, I'm still excited to write about strong women and the men they love."

Harlequin's Author Backstory campaign runs March 8 through May 3, 2018. In addition to Merline Lovelace, it will feature authors Renee Andrews, Zuri Day, Cindy Dees, Greta Gilbert, Silver James, Deborah Fletcher Mello, Lara Temple and Sheri WhiteFeather. In total these authors have published 258 titles that have sold 16 million copies worldwide.
