SlateTec® Grows To 32 States, Adds New TileTec® Lightweight Real-Clay Tile Roof System

Genuine Roof Systems, Inc. (GRS)—maker of the patented SlateTec lightweight roof assembly system using natural slate—today announced the launch of its new lightweight economical roof system using real flat-slab clay tile, TileTec, and the launch of its new GRS company name and website: www.genuineroofsystems.com.

“With our success—32 states, hundreds of installs, perfect customer satisfaction—and 19 years’ market traction showing that consumers choose genuine slate and clay tile over synthetic look-alikes like DaVinci when given a choice, we’ve decided to add a new real-clay product, TileTec, and a new brand for our systems,” said Mike McDonough, president of GRS.

“The plastic roofing market is over $1 billion. Most luxury users in it are either unaware of lightweight real-materials products that work on almost any roof, or they see limited options. Our new brand will increase awareness of the [lightweight] real-materials category. Our new products will provide more of the genuine-materials educated consumers prefer.”

Market researcher The Freedonia Group estimated the 2017 U.S. market for plastic roofing at $1.4 billion. They estimated the tile roofing market—generally defined as slate, clay, or concrete—at $1.3 billion.

“The current new product, TileTec, leverages our proven lightweight, easy-to-install system to include beautiful English flat-slab clay tile,” McDonough said.

“The look of our real tile, and slate, is European, elegant, refined, and the look gets better with age, whereas fakes can fade and curl.”

GRS TileTec colors are Classic Blend, Brown Blend, Red Blend, and County Blend.

The company’s new website features an educational blog and TileTec and SlateTec galleries, as well as installation videos (a six-part series).

The new TileTec system is similar to GRS’ SlateTec system, offered since 1999. The TileTec system layers shorter-than-traditional clay tiles over a recyclable high-tech polymer interlayment to reduce roof weight by approximately 40 percent. (See GRS brochure p. 4 for graphic.) The roof looks exactly like a traditionally installed flat-slab clay tile roof.

“This is a real-clay tile roofing system that is lightweight and comparable to faux and metal in cost. It gives a new natural option to homeowners tired of the failure and fakeness of plastic,” McDonough added.

TileTec weighs less than nine pounds per square foot. The lighter weight—traditional tile is more than 13 pounds per square foot—typically means additional structural support is not needed.

End-users, builders, and architects can also use TileTec as cladding.

Fast, beautiful installation with GRS system, says historic roofing contractor

GRS products are not only real, beautiful, and identical to traditional slate or tile installs, they’re also very easy to use, creating a preference among roofing contractors too.

Renaissance Roofing, an Midwest roofing company specializing in distinctive and historical roofs, recently applied SlateTec to a prominent church in downtown Omaha.

“The SlateTec install is not only going very smoothly, but fast and beautiful. …we need to get [the] video team onsite…,” said Jeffrey Kassel, Renaissance Roofing operations manager. “This project, this type of install, is a great advertisement for us, and for the use of SlateTec in the future.”
