Real-Time Manufacturing Insights Will Drive Demo of IQMS Technology Partner Wittmann Battenfeld and Panel Discussion at NPE2018

Plastics manufacturers’ success increasingly is driven by real-time insights on the shop floor that help companies to ensure product quality, meet tight customer deadlines, and optimize the performance of production equipment. At NPE2018, the world’s largest plastics trade show and conference, IQMS, a leading manufacturing ERP software and manufacturing execution system (MES) authority will share solutions and best practices for capitalizing on real-time data via three venues:

  • Live, real-time plant floor data demonstration by IQMS and technology partner Wittmann Battenfeld, manufacturer of injection molding machines, robots, and auxiliary equipment, Booths #W3742 and #S20023
  • Plastics Leadership Summit panel with IQMS’s CMO on Technology Innovation and Workforce Development in Manufacturing, May 10, 10:30 a.m., Room W415A
  • IQMS integrated ERP and MES system for gaining real-time insights to drive decision-making across a manufacturer’s organization and supply network, Booth #S20023

NPE2018 runs May 7-11, 2018 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The event will bring together 65,000-plus attendees from more than 100 companies, including plastics manufacturers and the solutions providers that support them. NPE2018 is produced by the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) and is the only international plastics event produced by the industry for the industry.

Wittmann Battenfeld Demo: Real-Time Plant Floor Data

What makes a factory smart? More importantly, how can manufacturers make the plant floor more efficient and responsive to customer demands? IQMS and leading injection molding equipment manufacturer Wittmann Battenfeld will show how in a live demo at the NPE2018 booths for Wittmann Battenfeld (#W3742) and IQMS (#S20023). The demo will enable attendees to see first-hand how product and process data captured from equipment running at the booth is integrated seamlessly and in real time with IQMS ERP and MES software to drive more efficient processes, improve quality, and enable the delivery of more perfect orders.

The live demo will cover how product and process data is collected with the WITTMANN 4.0 Plug and Produce production network hierarchy from injection molding machines and peripheral devices, including dryers, robots, temperature controllers, and blenders. Next, it will show how, using the industry-standard OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) and Euromap 63 industrial automation protocol, this part and process data is brought into the greater context of the business with a seamless integration into IQMS ERP and MES software.

Finally, the demo will examine how the IQMS ERP and MES system then provides a manufacturer with the data to:

  • Monitor process and production efficiency and quality trends using quick inspection, control, and trend charts to quickly identify any deviations in performance.
  • Improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) with quicker insights to determine which areas of availability, performance and quality have the most impact on performance.
  • Improve production plan performance by attaining greater schedule accuracy.
  • Optimize machine and customer order planning and fulfillment.
  • Prolong the life of equipment, machinery and tools using real-time data to predict when maintenance, repair and overhaul are required.
  • Improve cycle times and reduce scrapped parts by using real-time data to better manage and optimize production against constraints.

Plastics Leadership Summit Panel

IQMS CMO Steve Bieszczat will join other manufacturing and technology executives on the Technology Innovation and Workforce Development in Manufacturing panel session. A part of the Plastics Leadership Summit Production Track, the session will be held Thursday, May 10, from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. in Room W415A.

Threaded throughout the discussion of technology will be the role of real-time data. Bieszczat’s observations will include an understanding of the Internet of Things (IoT) in manufacturing. He will explain how it is about being connected to the shop floor and getting up-to-the-moment data about what machines are running and how each machine is running, as well as receiving alerts on potential machine issues before they become a problem. Bieszczat also will discuss how real-time insights provided by software can eliminate the inaccuracies that often creep in with manual recording. Additionally, he will cover the importance of being able to see what is happening on the floor and any potential pitfalls in order to make corrections and educated decisions based on timely, real information.

Bieszczat will be joined by Gregory Haye, general manager of the Materials and Process Development Center, Local Motors, Inc.; Mike Regan, director of 3D materials, HP, Inc.; Peter Stansky, digitization development manager, Digital Factory Siemens Industry, U.S.A.; and Jay Timmons, president and CEO, National Association of Manufacturers (NAM).

IQMS Integrated ERP and MES for Real-Time Insights

Throughout NPE2018, at Booth #S20023, IQMS will demonstrate how its system integrates MES and ERP functionality into a comprehensive solution to provide real-time insights across a manufacturer’s organization. Significantly, all data—from systems and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors on the shop floor to the back office—is managed by the same embedded Oracle database. As a result, manufacturing enterprises are empowered to take a streamlined approach to centralizing activity across the supply chain and ensuring that complete, accurate, and up-to-date information is available to all authorized users at all times.

Through IQMS’s Choice is the New Cloud™ program, customers have access to three deployment models designed for the needs of manufacturers. These include options to have a cloud-based subscription, their own IQMS license running in a hosted cloud, or licensed IQMS software running in their own data centers—either on servers or in a private cloud.
