Neustar’s Digital Citizenship and STEM Advocacy Reaches 180,000 students across Virginia, California, Kentucky

Neustar®, Inc., a trusted, neutral provider of real-time information services, today celebrated reaching 180,000 middle school students through its web-based My Connected World digital literacy and Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) program. Developed in partnership with EVERFI, an education technology innovator, the online course has reached more than 1,600 classrooms across Virginia, California and Kentucky, all at no cost to schools.

“The purpose of our digital program is to open students’ eyes to careers in STEM that will enable them to change the world,” said Neustar President and CEO Lisa Hook. “We live in a connected world. Understanding how to use technology safely and effectively will be fundamental to student success as they navigate the world through high school, in college and in their future careers.”

Neustar celebrated this milestone at two marquee events in Sterling, VA and San Francisco, CA that honored students and engaged Neustar employees as mentors and tech presenters to help drive program impact.

"Thanks to Neustar, my students are part of a special group of scholars across the country who are receiving the tools to grow into responsible digital citizens and future STEM leaders," said James Denman Middle School principal Lisa Jovick. "The students really enjoyed touring the Neustar office and meeting with STEM professionals - it was a great way to celebrate the program completion."

My Connected World is an interactive, web-based course that combines the power of cutting-edge instructional design, rich media and real-world simulations to educate teens about technology and careers using gaming and other engaging tools. The course is a core pillar of Neustar’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program dedicated to driving STEM education, women in technology, diversity & inclusion and sustainability in the communities where employees work and live.

“Fewer than 50% of students know someone who works in STEM or have awareness of different types of STEM career options,” said EVERFI Content and Product Development Vice President Zach Wagner. “By encouraging students to excel in STEM and introducing students to STEM-related career options, My Connected World can bolster their long-term interest in pursuing a STEM career.”
