Henkel’s Purex® Odor Release Delivers an Affordable Solution to Smelly Sports Gear in North America

Henkel recently launched Purex® Odor Release detergent in North America to provide an affordable odor-fighting laundry solution for active families. One situation in particular that Purex® Odor Release was developed to help address is a problem so many families face: smelly sports equipment that is rarely cleaned, because of either the cost or the hassle.

To demonstrate this, Purex recently conducted a fun survey with a leading market research firm in Canada to find out how often people really do (or don’t) wash their hockey equipment, with some surprising results. As part of these results, Purex discovered that 36 percent of the respondents admitted to never washing their gear, 23 percent said they wash their equipment less than once a year; 18 percent reported washing their gear on an annual basis; and 23 percent confirmed washing their equipment more than once a year — confirming the need for a value detergent to help active families clean their stinky equipment.

“Purex Odor Release is the newest value laundry detergent in North America with odor elimination technology to help eliminate tough odors,“ says Napaporn Slattery, Ph.D., Formulations Manager, Detergents at Henkel Corporation, the Germany-based company that creates and markets Purex in North America. “Our formula provides not only the great freshness for which Purex is known, but also powerful odor elimination technology to help resolve even the most stubborn odors.“

Michael Lyons, Director of Marketing for Purex in the U.S., explained that Purex provides a solution for active families who need an affordable, effective product to help tackle smelly gear, no matter what the sport. “With hockey season having recently ended here in the U.S., and summer sports like baseball, lacrosse, and soccer kicking off, it’s a great time to freshen up all your gear with Purex Odor Release. Families across North America can wash their equipment right in their washing machine – helping remove the odor that previously plagued their homes – without breaking the bank on specialty cleaning solutions. Plus, this powerful new formula provides 30 days of freshness while maintaining the dirt lifting, stain fighting effectiveness that Purex consumers love.”

Purex Odor Release detergent is available in three convenient retail sizes: 50 oz., 75 oz., and 150 oz. Purex Odor Release is available at most North American consumer goods retailers, and is suitable for all machines, including high-efficiency (HE) machines.

Purex Odor Release Helpful Hint:

Now’s the time to store winter sports gear for the summer. Here are some helpful tips for cleaning equipment so its fresh and ready for next season:
-Check equipment labels for instructions first; remove any pieces of removable plastic and attach any Velcro straps to their partner before washing
-Don’t over-fill your machine — divide gear into two or three loads; use a front-loading machine if possible. If you have a top-loader, soak the gear for 15 minutes before washing to keep it from floating; don’t use bleach
-Place the washed equipment on a rack to air-dry, including gloves (to avoid cracking in the leather).
