Women’s Energy Network – North Texas Chapter Hosts Eighth Annual Leadership Conference in Dallas

The Women’s Energy Network (WEN) – North Texas Chapter will host the organization’s Eighth Annual Leadership Conference, "Rising with the Tide: Excellence in the New Normal", June 21, 2018. The half-day event will be held at the Dallas Petroleum Club, 2200 Ross Avenue, 39th floor. Conference registration will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by a networking lunch and the afternoon program. A networking reception will immediately follow the conference at 5:00 p.m.

“WEN North Texas has planned a dynamic conference aimed at providing its attendees tools to identify and develop professional opportunities and enhance their position in the current energy industry environment,” says Carly Hewett, 2018 WEN North Texas Chapter President. “We are pleased to introduce our incredible distinguished speakers and panelists.”

Monica Blacker, Founder, Bax Advisors, will open the conference with a presentation titled “Rising to the Top: How and Why Women Should be Helping Other Women”. Monica Blacker is a retired attorney; she spent 22 years practicing as a business workout and reorganization attorney in several large firms. During her climb to partner in an international law firm, she observed many pitfalls and obstacles that get in a woman’s way and, ultimately, cause her to derail or leave the job. Armed with personal experiences, stories, and anecdotes from many of her colleagues, Ms. Blacker has become a passionate advocate for women and speaker on topics designed to make the road smoother.

Keynote speaker Sabine Gaedeke Stener, CEO, Gaedeke Energy, will explore the topic “Embracing Change”. Sabine Gaedeke Stener oversees the operations of Gaedeke Group as well as the oil and gas investments and activities of Gaedeke Energy and Gaedeke Holdings, Ltd. Prior to founding Gaedeke Group, Ms. Stener served as the director of marketing for a major division of Bertelsmann AG, one of the world's largest international multimedia companies.

Maria F. Cortez, Senior Research Manager, Wood Mackenzie, Upstream Latin America, will share “What industry-leading E&Ps see in Latin America's Energy Opportunity”. Maria Cortez currently serves as a Senior Research Manager on Wood Mackenzie’s Upstream Latin America team. Her remit includes Mexico and South America and she manages a team of research and data analysts across the region.

TCU Energy MBA will be hosting a Discussion Panel with Ms. Sharon Stufflebeme, Dr. Tom Bates and Dr. Ed Ireland focusing on the topic “Looking to the Future”.

The conference will conclude with the Closing Keynote Speaker Dr. Sydney Barcus addressing “Leveraging Self Awareness to Energize Your Capabilities”. Dr. Sydney Barcus, will lead an engaging activity that will help conference attendees identify key personality traits. Participants will then learn to leverage this self-awareness to reduce conflict, be more productive in team settings, and execute with excellence. Dr. Barcus serves as Director of Organizational Development for EnLink Midstream. In this role, Dr. Barcus oversees succession planning, performance management, leadership, and development strategies for EnLink’s 1,500 employees.
