Illinois American Water to Invest $650,000 to Upgrade Lincoln Water System

Next week, Illinois American Water will begin replacing and installing over 1,800-feet of water main to upgrade Lincoln’s water distribution system. This investment of $650,000 will enhance water service, fire protection and system hydraulics. Water valves and fire hydrants will also be replaced and installed as a part of this project.

Water main installation will occur in the following locations:

  • Madison Street north of Woodlawn
  • Adam street from 15th to 13th street
  • Limit Street and Broadway intersection

Gabe Bowden, operations superintendent for the Lincoln District, said, “We invest annually to ensure water quality and service continues to be as good as or better than local, state and federal quality standards. This project will benefit all of our customers by helping to reduce water main breaks and related traffic and service impact.”

The entire project, including restoration, should be completed this fall. Customers directly affected by the work will be notified via letter about the impact and any necessary steps. The letter will include a local contact for questions. Motorists should use caution when driving in the construction area and obey traffic signs, detour routes and flaggers in the area.
