Partnership for Safe Water Program Recognizes Kentucky American Water for Exceptional Performance

Kentucky American Water has again received national recognition for its demonstrated commitment to exceptional water treatment operations.

The company’s Kentucky River Station I and Richmond Road Station water treatment facilities in Lexington received prestigious 20-Year Directors Award recognition this month from the Partnership for Safe Water, an alliance of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators, the National Association of Water Companies and the Water Research Foundation. The two facilities have successfully participated in the voluntary Partnership for Safe Water program for two decades. Program participants agree to accomplishing a variety of tasks well beyond what is required by law – such as completing self-assessments, peer reviews, comprehensive operational and performance evaluations, and the development of action plans – in order to achieve the provision of exceptional quality drinking water to customers. These two facilities are among just 14 treatment plants across the country to achieve this 20-year distinction.

Similarly, the company’s youngest treatment plant, Kentucky River Station II at Hardin’s Landing in Owen County, which began operation in the fall of 2010, has been recognized with the Partnership for Safe Water Directors Award for the first time.

“Kentucky American Water is honored to receive this very special recognition,” said Nick Rowe, president of Kentucky American Water and senior vice president of American Water’s Southeast Division. “Participation in the Partnership for Safe Water requires tremendous dedication and effort by our employees.

“We are so proud to have achieved the 20-year milestone with this voluntary program, but most importantly, we’re pleased to know that we continually provide our customers with drinking water that is truly among the very best quality in the nation.”

Partnership for Safe Water members participate in a rigorous four-phase self-assessment and peer review process developed by industry experts and are recognized industry-wide for their commitment to delivering safe water to their communities.
