AT&T and Freedom CNG Delivering Cleaner Air

HOUSTON, July 23, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- AT&T has been a leader in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) innovation and application throughout the United States. The Company has invested $565 million dollars into cleaner alternative fuels since 2009 and has expanded the fleet every year. At the time, the move represented the single largest investment in CNG by a U.S. corporation, signaling a shift towards cleaner-burning forms of transportation.

"With one of the largest corporate fleets in the country, it makes sense for our business and our communities that we constantly seek ways to reduce fuel costs and minimize environmental impact," said Jerome Webber, Vice President, Global Fleet and Transportation Management at AT&T.

Building a strong infrastructure through the purchase of sustainable vehicles allowed AT&T to construct an economically and environmentally friendly fleet to maintain field operations. The company has plans to reach 15,000 alternative fuel vehicles on the road by the end of this year.

Recently, the Houston Chronicle reported that 48% of Houston's smog and ozone problems came from harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) gas, produced largely by mobile emissions such as cars and trucks. Operating cleaner vehicles that produce less NOx gas is the easiest way to reduce smog in the Houston Area.

AT&T has been partnering with Freedom CNG since 2012 for fueling 300 CNG trucks and vans operating in Houston-Metro area. AT&T currently uses all three of Freedom's Houston area fueling sites and others to ensure total coverage of the fourth largest city in the US.

The telecommunications leader averages 133,000 gallons of CNG annually from Freedom's three Houston stations, reducing NOx emissions by an average of 119 tons per year. AT&T joins METRO and Houston Distributing Company as environmental leaders in the Houston area while reducing fuel costs.

Freedom CNG is helping to improve Houston's air quality by reducing NOx emissions through the promotion of alternative fuels, like CNG. Freedom encourages the adoption of clean and affordable CNG through education, training, workshops and grant writing support for those willing to choose CNG as a cleaner fuel choice.
