Canada Invests in Net-Zero Retrofit Program for Homeowners
BRIDGEWATER, NS, Sept. 4, 2018 /CNW/ - Energy efficiency is hard to see, but we feel its benefits in our homes, neighbourhoods, environment, economy and wallets. A clean energy future includes federal investments in innovation to drive economic growth, reduce environmental impact and create new, middle-class jobs for Canadians.
Today, Bernadette Jordan, Member of Parliament for South Shore-St. Margarets, on behalf of Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, announced a $374,830 investment to help homeowners bring their home energy use to the net-zero level.
In collaboration with the Clean Foundation -- and partially funded through Natural Resources Canada's Energy Efficiency Program -- the Clean Net Zero Program aims to help homeowners complete deep energy retrofits with the goal of upgrading their homes to produce as much energy as they consume on an annual basis.
The Clean Net Zero Program also aims to address barriers, such as costs, that homeowners experience while retrofitting their homes. In fact, the Town of Bridgewater and LaHave River Credit Union are offering financing options to those who quality.
The Clean Net Zero Program is helping residents in Bridgewater and Lunenburg make their homes more comfortable and more cost-effective to maintain and is helping set an example in home energy efficiency for communities across Nova Scotia. As part of the program's enlistment process, homeowners receive home evaluations based on Natural Resources Canada's EnerGuide tool to identify upgrades that can improve energy efficiency.
