Natural Plant Products Reports Record Sales Growth and Adds Holtmeier and Chapman to Salem Staff

Natural Plant Products, Inc. (NPP) a producer of natural botanical oils/extracts from Oregon-based co-op member farms, closed a record global sales year in June, resulting in nice dividends for it’s farm co-op members.

Sales growth has come primarily from the producer’s Meadowfoam Seed Oil, grown exclusively in Oregon’s Willamette Valley by the co-op’s close to 50 member farms. NPP supplies about 90% of the global market for the ingredient used in hair, skin, face and lip personal care products. Sales were also up for the company’s latest oil crop addition, Daikon Seed Extract, sold almost exclusively by NPP for skin and hair product formulations.

“It’s been an exciting, if intensive time. There is a wealth of accounting work required to implement a decision to redeem some of the equity contributed by co-op members over the past ten years," says CEO Mike Martinez, “but that’s a really nice problem to have!”

To keep up with growing market demands, this year NPP has also added to their customer service staff.

Two Salem natives, Carissa Holtmeier and Melissa Chapman have joined the Salem team and are tasked with managing customer service, order and sample management and accounting support. Both are seasoned team players with extensive local community, business and customer service chops.

“It’s extremely important that the integrity and trust we’ve built in the industry continue. Having a strong customer service team is key to maintaining that,” says Martinez. “We’re very lucky to have Melissa and Carissa to help us continue to succeed there. They both bring a lot to the mix and, as Salem natives, have a unique local sensibility that fits our organization really well.”

Carissa and Melissa have impressive resumes supporting local communities both on and off the clock, indicative of deep roots in the Valley, which is home to NPP member farms.

Holtmeier worked most recently as an Operations and Project Coordinator for the Oregon Bankers Association, holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration – Management from Corban University and has volunteered extensively with local youth programs.

“I love the idea of working as a team,” says Holtmeier. “I’m excited to see what we can accomplish together.”

Chapman worked most recently as an Operations Manager in Property & Casualty Non-Standard Auto Claims and brings over 20 years of administrative, operational and customer service experience. She has volunteered for many years with the Salem Woman’s Crises Service as well as the Marion County District Attorney’s office and is a longtime St Paul Rodeo Association member.

“I am enjoying learning the unique convergence of agriculture, international business and cosmetic worlds," says Chapman.

Both of these key hires have hit the ground running, already digging in to support the growing needs of this flourishing Salem-headquartered farmers co-op.
