Engineering in the Life Sciences provides a range of material from each of the major content areas in biological sciences, including structures and processes, ecosystems, heredity, and biological evolution. The lessons are designed to spark high school students’ interest. They have titles such as “Designer DNA,” “Ecosystem Board Game Design Challenge,” and “B-pocalypse,” which is about battling the decline in bees needed to pollinate crops.

Teachers in diverse settings will find Engineering in the Life Sciences to be a useful supplement to their existing lessons. It provides detailed support materials including teaching tips and connections to standards. It also has five case studies about how engineering concepts and science intersect to address human needs. Inspired by extensive field testing, the book makes it easier for teachers to both manage engineering-oriented activities and conduct assessments in the context of the life sciences.
