Welbilt Opens Its Doors for Manufacturing Day 2018

Welbilt, Inc. (NYSE:WBT), a leading global manufacturer of commercial foodservice equipment, is opening its doors for Manufacturing Day today. Welbilt sites in Parsons, Tennessee, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, Shreveport, Louisiana, and New Port Richey, Florida are hosting students to introduce them to the multifaceted and rewarding career opportunities in the foodservice equipment sector.

Manufacturing Day (www.mfgday.com) has been designed to improve the general public perception of the value of manufacturing to the U.S. economy and to promote careers in manufacturing. It is sponsored by the National Association of Manufacturers and the Manufacturing Institute.

Manufacturing has seen a renaissance in the United States. The industry offers stable career paths, good benefits and a strong sense of community. Nonetheless, the industry has been struggling to find skilled labor for production. Diana Saachi, Welbilt’s Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, explained, “There is a perception that manufacturing is in decline and a low tech industry. In reality, manufacturing has seen renewed growth and needs skilled labor to support it. Today’s modern manufacturing jobs require a high level of technical understanding, very diverse skill sets and critical thinking. The industry has evolved with new technologies and innovative high tech products, and needs more skilled labor than ever before.”

Welbilt is providing guided tours at its sites in Parsons, Mt. Pleasant, Shreveport, and the Technology and Customer Innovation Center in New Port Richey, during which visitors, mainly students from local high schools, get the chance to learn more about Welbilt’s brand portfolio, its products, and the foodservice equipment industry at large. Engineers and culinary experts are showcasing Welbilt’s equipment and system solutions, the production workflow from begin to finish and are providing advice about the kinds of careers available at Welbilt, including training and apprenticeship programs. Welbilt offers a wide range of positions that match different skill sets, educational backgrounds and experiences.

Manufacturing Day represents a chance to debunk the many myths about manufacturing and inspire the next generation of manufacturers. It is a great opportunity to connect with local communities, create interest in a career at Welbilt and attract talent at all levels.
