It is projected that air passengers in India will grow at a CAGR of approximately 3.7% to reach 7.2 billion air passengers by 2035, from 3.8 billion air passengers in 2016. It is also projected that by the year 2036, India will have more airline passengers than those of Japan and Germany put together.

The Budget 2018-19 highlighted that the Government is putting in efforts to develop 56 unserved airports in the country along with 37 helipads. The Government aims to make air travel more affordable for all classes of the society and is looking to improve domestic connectivity. The Government also laid out its intentions of increasing India's 124 airports by almost five times with an aim of facilitating the airports to handle up to one billion trips a year.
