Gogoa Mobility Robots announces CE Mark Approval for HANK Exoskeleton

SAN SEBASTIAN, Spain, Oct. 22, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Gogoa Mobility Robots, a wearable technologies company that designs and develops exoskeletons, today announced it has received CE Mark approval for HANK, a lower limb exoskeleton system.

HANK is a lower limb exoskeleton developed by Gogoa Mobility Robots for use in rehabilitation of adults such as stroke patients following neurological injury. It can also be used for gait compensation in patients who have paralysis of the lower limbs following spinal cord injuries. Designed and manufactured in Europe, HANK is the first exoskeleton for clinical use with a CE Mark. It is also the first medical exoskeleton of its class with motorized ankles, allowing for more natural range of motion.

"CE Mark approval is a significant accomplishment for us, the exoskeleton required rigorous regulatory review against high-clinical and safety standards," said Carlos Fernandez, CEO of Gogoa Mobility Robots. "Europe is the new hotbed for start-ups in the robotic rehabilitation field and we are proud to be the first EU company to get the certification. It represents the validation of our strategic road map, product development and the quality our system. We look forward to introducing HANK in different countries in partnership with distributors to help more people improve their quality of life."

Gogoa Mobility Robots has worked with different EU countries including Toledo National Paraplegic Hospital in Spain, Fondazione Santa Lucia in Italy and Houston Hospital in the US to demonstrate the ability of the HANK exoskeleton system to help stroke patients in various states of disability, improving the quality of their movement.

CE approval enables Gogoa Mobility Robots to market and sell HANK in EU market countries and develop effective robotic rehabilitation for patients who have suffered from stroke, spinal cord injuries and other issues. HANK meets the essential requirements of Medical Device Directive (MDD 93/42/EEC). Following CE mark approval Gogoa Mobility Robots plans to conduct post market surveillance research and foster new clinical trials with exoskeletons for new untested medical conditions.

Gogoa Mobility Robots will be presenting at MEDICA, the World Healthcare Forum, held in Germany at Düsseldorf, from 15 to 18 November 2018, located at stand B31, Hall 16, in collaboration with the Basque HealthCluster.

ABOUT GOGOA MOBILITY ROBOTS

At Gogoa Mobility Robots our mission is to develop affordable and effective wearable solutions to help humans increase capacity for movement. From neck, shoulder and lumbar support in industrial ergonomics, to health-related critical challenges our bio-mechanical experts create wearable robotics that support human movement. Gogoa's award winning "Assist-As-Needed" (AAN) control technology adapts to different human movements for optimal functionality. AAN transforms the internal intention to move into actual movement, using a combination of artificial intelligence, accelerometers and advanced sensors that measure muscle electrical signals. Our exoskeletons are used in physical rehabilitation for medical treatment and in the manufacturing sector to increase movement capacity for workers and prevent injuries.
