Fire Equipment Manufacturers' Association Selects Fire Safety Champion for 2018 Life Safety Advocate Award

CLEVELAND, Nov. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Fire Equipment Manufacturers' Association has selected Paul Martin, Deputy State Fire Administrator with the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Service's Office of Fire Prevention and Control, for its 2018 Life Safety Advocate Award.

The annual Life Safety Advocate Award is given to a fire safety professional who has demonstrated a commitment to enhancing the safety of the public through innovative efforts, including legislative, educational, enforcement or other effective means.

"Paul Martin has dedicated his career to improving fire code safety standards and advancing fire safety education," said Duane Leonhardt, president of Fire Equipment Manufacturers' Association. "Having served in multiple line and administration positions during his nearly 40-year fire service career, Paul's commitment and ongoing efforts to promote fire safety make him exceptionally qualified to receive this esteemed award."

Martin is active on both the National Association of State Fire Marshals' Codes Committee and the International Building Code-Means of Egress Committee for the International Code Council. As president of The Center for Campus Fire Safety, Martin successfully implemented enhanced programming relating to fire detection, suppression and evacuation, along with fire safety education; he also served as the principal architect of New York's campus fire safety program.

Additionally, Martin has served as co-chair of Prevention, Advocacy, Resource and Data Exchange (PARADE), a program of the United States Fire Administration designed to foster the exchange of fire-related prevention and protection information and resources among Federal, State, and local levels of government.

Prior to his storied career in fire safety, Martin served for 10 years in the military, first with the U.S. Air Force in a role for fire protection and then as a firefighter with the U.S. Navy.

Over the years, Martin has received several awards of valor, including the 2000 Firehouse Magazine® national grand prize for heroism. He was formally presented with the Life Safety Advocate Award during the Fire Equipment Manufacturers' Association's Annual Meeting in October.
