DAR, USA250 and PHS Begin Celebrating 250 Years of American Independence Planting 250 Trees

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), USA250, and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) will host a ceremony to initiate the planting of 250 trees that will create the new “DAR Pathway of the Patriots” along the Schuylkill River, honoring patriots of the American Revolution.

   

WHAT:

Kicking off preparations for the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States of America, USA250, a national nonprofit helping to coordinate the anniversary events, DAR, PHS and members of the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission will plant the first of 250 trees along the Schuylkill River between historic Bartram’s Garden and Valley Forge National Historical Park.

 
The event precedes the inaugural meeting of the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission on Friday. The Commission, established by Congress to prepare the overall program to commemorate the 250th anniversary of our country’s founding, consists of eight members of Congress, nine Federal Government officials and 16 private citizens.
 
Speakers at the event will include three members appointed to the Commission: Andrew Hohns with USA250, Lynn Forney Young with DAR, and Dan DiLella, Chair, U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, along with Matt Rader from the PHS.
