Bohemia Interactive Simulations Demonstrates New Cloud-Enabled Virtual World Technology at I/ITSEC 2018

Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim), a global developer of advanced military training and simulation software, today unveils a demonstration of the cloud-enabled, virtual world training capability technologies that will support future military training requirements (including the U.S. Army requirements for its Synthetic Training Environment [STE] initiative), at I/ITSEC 2018 (booth #2235). BISim will demo the four core technologies that comprise its STE offering: VBS Blue, VBS Software Development Kits (SDKs), VBS Control and Gears, alongside other news and existing products, including the company’s flagship virtual training environment VBS3 and supporting technology. The Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) is being held in Orlando at the Orange County Convention Center from November 26 - 30.

BISim’s new technology suite includes a cutting-edge, military-specific whole-earth game engine, deterministic AI, an efficient geospatial terrain server and component-based development technology. BISim technology underpins funded research and development for One World Terrain, and BISim is under contract to prototype further U.S. Army STE concepts.

“BISim’s new suite of technologies will raise the bar on the performance and scale of virtual training. The new technologies offer training on a global scale with rich environments using cutting-edge artificial intelligence and cloud processing techniques. Additionally, the technologies are built with backwards compatibility and open standards in mind, allowing our customers to transition at their own pace and get maximum value out of their historic investments,” said Pete Morrison, Co-CEO and Chief Product Officer of BISim. “The innovative solutions we are developing to assist the Army will help shape the future of how virtual training is used to enhance operational readiness.”

At I/ITSEC, BISim will showcase the power of its new cloud-enabled technology suite for a combined arms, multi-domain scenario in which friendly forces will carry out an assault on an enemy artillery position. The scenario will involve several components including:

  • An Apache attack helicopter simulation (using Brunner Elektronik’s VR-200 Motion simulator specially fitted with Apache replica control grips)
  • a HMMWV driver and gunner trainer using Raydon Corporation’s Mission Reconfigurable technology
  • dismounted soldiers using VR and motion tracking from Serious Simulations

All components of the scenario will be integrated with BISim’s new technology suite. BISim staff at desktop PC stations will represent a quick-reaction force comprised of various U.S. Army vehicles in the scenario using VBS STE, part of BISim’s new technology suite which combines an enhanced VBS simulation engine with VBS Blue whole-earth rendering. The scenario will also incorporate terrain editing and management technologies developed by TerraSim, a BISim company, and close air support simulation applications from SimCentric Technologies. Also at the booth, CM Labs Simulations will demonstrate new true-to-life physics capabilities available to VBS users through integration between their product Vortex Studio and the BISim product line.

See the newest additions to the product lineup and see STE in action at BISim’s booth (#2235) at the Orange County Convention Center between Monday, November 26 and Thursday, November 29.
