RealTerm Energy Partners With Six New York State Municipalities for Their LED Streetlight Conversions, Collectively Saving Them $475,000 Annually

NEW YORK, Dec. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- RealTerm Energy has partnered with the municipalities of Great Neck, Newark, Nyack, Goshen, Florida and Piermont to convert their current HID (high intensity discharge) streetlights to LED (light emitting diode) technology. This conversion is estimated to collectively save the municipalities $475,000 per year and reduce their energy consumption by nearly 1,700,000 kWh (kilowatt hours) annually - equivalent to eliminating the greenhouse gas emissions produced by 270 cars per year.

These conversions are in line with New York's energy efficiency project, Smart Street Lighting NY, a statewide program announced by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in his 2018 State of the State address. The program focuses on the installation of at least 500,000 LED streetlights in New York by 2025, which would cut energy use in the State by 482 gigawatt hours annually, equivalent to the energy used to power 38,500 homes per year. This will reduce CO2e emissions by 358,700 metric tons per year and save taxpayers $87 million annually.

"We are very excited to be working with RealTerm Energy on our LED conversion project. They are providing us with a full turn-key program that includes customized lighting design to ensure optimal light distribution, improved safety and resident comfort," stated Mayor Don Hammond from the Village of Nyack.

"Switching to LED streetlighting will allow us to save money that we can reinvest in other important municipal services and help decrease our carbon emissions. It is truly a win-win," expressed Bruce Tucker, Mayor of the Village of Piermont.

RealTerm Energy will be responsible for the removal of existing fixtures, the installation of new technology, the provision of customized lighting designs and supporting the municipalities in their selection of new LED light fixtures based on products that best suit their needs. RealTerm Energy will also be offering financing and ongoing maintenance options.

In addition, the Village of Great Neck has taken this conversion opportunity to deploy a city-wide smart lighting project. Smart lighting enables streetlights to be paired with networked controllers, allowing for future deployment of Smart City technologies.

RealTerm Energy has designed, procured, installed or is in the process of installing over 250,000 streetlights across North America. To learn more about how to move forward with your LED streetlight conversion project, please visit our website or contact us directly at newyork@realtermenergy.com.
