DP&L Awards the Dayton Metro Library Nearly $300,000 in Energy Efficiency Rebates

The Dayton Power and Light Company (DP&L), a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES), is recognizing Dayton Metro Library for achieving $287,043 in rebates utilizing high-performance energy-saving measures that are improving the environment and maximizing savings on their energy costs. The rebate is part of an extensive corporate energy efficiency commitment based primarily on the new construction of the main library and some of its branches along with updates across all facilities.

“The Dayton Metro Library and its branches are being reshaped into the modern library system offering enhanced and enriched programs, and a better overall patron experience. The use of computers and internet connections at libraries continues to rise, interests in extra services such as literacy programs for young children, meeting spaces for community groups, on-line learning, and technology classes that provide opportunities to explore and learn are here today at the Dayton Metro Library,” said DP&L Executive Vice President Tom Raga. “DP&L is proud to be a partner in helping the library system become more energy efficient contributing to the Library’s growth.”

All construction included high-performance energy-saving design to maximize efficiency with interior and exterior LED lighting along with occupancy sensors. With the abundance of natural daylight in the spaces, most areas typically operate at 50% lighting power at peak and exterior lighting utilizes 54% less energy than a facility designed to meet standard energy code.

Advanced heating and cooling technologies were installed which contributes to long-term reduction in energy usage and cost. The design allows for a very efficient HVAC operation.

“The Library is grateful to DP&L for this financial recognition of our design aspirations,” said Dayton Metro Library Executive Director Tim Kambitsch. “Working with our patrons, architects, construction management teams and engineers, we have been able to build more energy efficient facilities, and these efficiencies ultimately put more money back into our general fund to provide world class library services as we continue our important mission for this community.”

Collectively, Dayton Metro Library and its branches are expected to save more than 2.2 million kWh annually which translates to approximately $175,000 each year.
