YMCA Kicks Off Construction of New South County Y With Demo Day Event
FREDERICK, Md., Jan. 10, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The YMCA of Frederick County held a Demolition Day to kick off construction of its new South County Y facility in Urbana. The site is located between Urbana Middle and Urbana High schools on MD 80/Fingerboard Road.
Plans for the state-of-the-art full service facility have been in the works for the past few years and will serve the rapidly growing population of South County. Along with an aquatics complex, the new 62,000-square foot facility, will include a grand lobby, wellness center, large gymnasium, indoor walking/running track, inter-generational space for active older adults, kids' family adventure center, group exercise studios, locker rooms, and multipurpose athletic fields, according to the Y's President/CEO Chris Colville.
"It's meant to complement what we already do. It's not meant to replace what's happening here," Colville said of the Urbana Y complex.
Attendees of the Demolition Day event received a brief update on the facility - including a report on the progress of the new South County Y and an introduction of the companies selected to lead the construction process. The Civil Engineer is Harris, Smariga & Associates; the General Contractor is Morgan Keller Construction; and the Architectural Firm selected is Zavos
Architecture+Design.
