CFA Society of Minnesota to Feature Bethany McLean for 2019 Annual Dinner on January 31 in Minneapolis

CFA Society of Minnesota has announced that they will feature Bethany McLean, contributing editor at Vanity Fair, as their 2019 Annual Dinner speaker. The event is scheduled for January 31 at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis.

Prior to role at Vanity Fair, McLean was an editor-at-large at Fortune magazine, where her 2001 piece, “Is Enron Overpriced?” was one of the first skeptical articles about Enron. After Enron collapsed into bankruptcy, she co-authored The Smartest Guys in the Room: The Amazing Rise and Scandalous Fall of Enron with her Fortune colleague Peter Elkind. A documentary based on the book was nominated for an Academy Award in 2006.

McLean is the first female speaker to keynote for this event, and her trip to Minneapolis will also allow for a student-focused event at the University of MN the next day. “Creating more opportunities to feature influential women is a goal of our Changing Perceptions initiative,” commented board member Sheila Berube, CFA, chair of the event sub-committee. “We are thrilled to have Bethany here, and to learn about her experiences and insights asking the hard questions, like she has done much of her career.”

This annual event is open to members and non-members of the society. Event medallion sponsors to-date include: (Gold Level) Securian Asset Management, (Bronze Level) Allianz Investment Management, Berger Financial Group, Garda Capital Partners and Mairs and Power.
