Homes For Our Troops celebrates 15 years of building and donating specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans

TAUNTON, Mass., Jan. 30, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- This February, the Massachusetts-based national nonprofit Homes For Our Troops is celebrating 15 years of building and donating specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post-9/11 Veterans nationwide. Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) stays with their Veterans after home completion to assist them in rebuilding their lives.

Homes For Our Troops was started in 2004 by a Massachusetts general contractor who offered to build a Massachusetts Army National Guard Soldier a specially adapted custom home in Middleborough, Mass. The Soldier, who had been injured in Iraq, agreed to have him build the home on the condition he do the same for other injured Veterans. Since then, Homes For Our Troops has built 274 homes for injured Veterans in 42 states. The organization currently has 79 projects underway.

"We are incredibly proud of this milestone, our exceptional staff, and the Great Americans who have shown these Veterans compassion throughout the years," says HFOT President/CEO Tom Landwermeyer. "While we celebrate this achievement, we recognize our mission is not complete, and we are committed to serving the hundreds more Veterans currently in our program, and those in the application process, still in need of the life-changing gift of an adapted home. Our ultimate goal is to ensure every Veteran who qualifies for one of our homes receives one."

"My family and I are forever grateful to Homes For Our Troops and the physical and financial freedom they've provided us," says HFOT home recipient Steven Curry. "I cannot believe they have been assisting Veterans like me for 15 years now. We have been involved with HFOT for six years, and each year the organization improves and helps more Veterans. We're excited to see what the future holds for Homes For Our Troops."

Since starting in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar spent has gone to support program services for Veterans.

Homes For Our Troops continues to be a Top-Rated Military and Veterans Charity by Charity Watch, GuideStar, Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance and Charity Navigator.

About Homes For Our Troops (HFOT): Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post - 9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives. Most of these Veterans have sustained injuries including multiple limb amputations, partial or full paralysis, and/or severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). These homes restore some of the freedom and independence our Veterans sacrificed while defending our country, and enable them to focus on their family, recovery, and rebuilding their lives. Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents out of every dollar spent has gone directly to our program services for Veterans. HFOT builds these homes where the Veteran chooses to live, and continues its relationship with the Veterans after home delivery to assist them with rebuilding their lives.
