New Jersey American Water Invested More Than $330 Million Statewide in 2018

New Jersey American Water recently announced its end-of-year investment total and system improvements for 2018. More than $330 million total was invested on system upgrades and various improvement projects statewide throughout the year.

Each year, New Jersey American Water invests millions of dollars in maintaining and upgrading its treatment and distribution (pipeline) infrastructure. This includes regular maintenance and upgrades to treatment plants, tanks, pump stations, miles of pipe, water mains, fire hydrants and metering equipment.

For 2018, system improvement highlights include:

  • Mains: New Jersey American Water invested $102.4 million in 2018 to install more than 67 miles of main to replace and rehabilitate aging pipe and install new main in order to serve additional areas. Additionally, New Jersey American Water invested more than $2 million in leak detection equipment in 2018 to further enhance its teams’ ability to respond to leaks and breaks.
  • Source Water, Treatment and Other Production System Improvements: New Jersey American Water invested more than $100 million for improvements to its water treatment facilities across the state in 2018. Those facilities and projects include:
    • Delran Regional Water Treatment Plant – lime feed equipment upgrades
    • Canoe Brook Water Treatment Plant – treatment upgrades
    • Raritan-Millstone Water Treatment Plant – flood wall, low-lift station upgrades
    • Glenside Avenue Pump Station – booster station
    • Sunset Road Wastewater Treatment Plant – well and treatment upgrades
    • Oak Glen Water Treatment Plant – treatment plant expansion
    • Plainfield Operations Center – vehicle facility upgrades
    • Various facilities around the state – automation and control system upgrades
  • Fire Hydrants: New Jersey American Water replaced 1,029 fire hydrants and 1,475 valves across the state, an approximately $13 million investment.
  • Service Lines: New Jersey American Water replaced 11,600 services lines, an investment totaling approximately $15.2 million.
  • Tanks/Storage: New Jersey American Water rehabilitated six water tanks, an investment totaling approximately $4 million.
