Double Helix Optics Wins Prestigious SPIE's 2019 Prism Award

BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Double Helix Optics was just declared the winner of SPIE's 2019 Prism Award in the Diagnostics and Therapeutics category. SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, presents this prestigious award to exceptionally innovative organizations for the best new optics and photonics products brought to the market.

Double Helix Optics' award-winning SPINDLE® module and patented Light Engineering(TM) point spread function (PSF) technology deliver unparalleled 3D imaging and tracking with precision-depth capability. Designed as an easily attachable modular upgrade to existing camera and microscope systems, the SPINDLE, with its library of interchangeable phase masks, captures 3D information in single images, without scanning, with depth of field up to 20 m and up to 10x improved resolution. The interchangeable phase masks--customizable based on depth range, emission wavelength and more--enable a deeper layer of nanoscale visualization and data capture.

This unique super-resolution technology captures the elusive 3rd dimension, breaking through limitations in visibility to offer scientists a new level of visual clarity and the capture of much more detailed information. This enables the opportunity to accelerate the pace of disease discovery and therapeutics development.

"The world we live in is 3D and the world we have yet to discover is 3D. With our Light Engineering technology, scientists are now able to study cellular structures and inter and intra-cellular interactions at the level of the individual molecule in three dimensions and deep inside the cell. Our technology is already enabling new discoveries in a range of scientific fields from neuroscience to cancer. And we have only just begun," said Leslie Kimerling, co-founder and CEO of Double Helix Optics.

While currently optimized for use in bioscience and biotech, the company's Light Engineering technology is extensible to additional applications where precision-depth object capture is critical, including materials research, inspection, and machine vision.

The 11th annual Prism Awards ceremony took place at a black-tie gala on February 6, 2019 during SPIE's Photonics West conference. Those nominated for the award range from small startups to large, multi-national corporations. Finalists were chosen from more than 125 applications from 15 different countries.

This award comes on the heels of Double Helix Optics winning the grand prize and $1 million in the Luminate business accelerator competition, which recognizes the most promising optics, photonics and imaging companies.
