PPG Introduces PPG HI-TEMP 900 Coating for New-Build, Shop Applications

PPG (NYSE: PPG) today announced it has expanded its PPG HI-TEMP® line of high-temperature-resistant coatings with the introduction of PPG Hi-Temp 900 coating, which is specifically formulated for new-build and shop applications.

PPG Hi-Temp 900 coating is a two-component system that can be applied in one coat, cures at ambient temperatures and achieves high strength quickly while speeding production and handling in high-build shop environments. It is ideal for fabricators of new steel construction who want faster application times and the well-established benefits of PPG Hi-Temp coatings – excellent corrosion resistance in extreme operating environments, especially for corrosion under insulation (CUI).

“PPG Hi-Temp 900 coating can help refineries, petrochemical facilities and other industries with high operating temperatures minimize the costs associated with CUI,” said Dik Betzig, PPG technical director, protective and marine coatings. “CUI can result in accidental facility shutdowns and also potentially cause environmental issues and personal injuries that can negatively affect a company’s reputation. There are a number of key properties that a coating must have to be effective at combating CUI, and PPG Hi-Temp 900 coating exhibits all of these.”

The product is resistant to intermittent immersion in boiling water and can withstand thermal shock and thermal cyclic conditions that can cause cracking, fracturing and delimitation. It provides corrosion resistance in cyclic wet/dry conditions from -300 F to 600 F (-185 C to 316 C), and its service window extends to 900 F (482 C) in dry temperatures.

The coating’s excellent ultra-violet (UV) stability resists corrosion of non-insulated surfaces subject to environmental exposure. Where safety shades or marking are required, for example, the PPG Hi-Temp 900 coating can be topcoated with PPG Hi-Temp® 500 coating or PPG Hi-Temp® 1000 coating.

PPG Hi-Temp 900 coating is available globally, simplifying customers’ coating specifications for the high-temperature carbon and stainless steel that they require for their operations.

The PPG Hi-Temp family of products also includes:

  • PPG Hi-Temp 1027 coating, with a more than 10-year track record of performance in CUI applications and a service window that extends to 1,200 F (650 C). PPG Hi-Temp 1027 coating is a single pack and surface-tolerant product that also can be used for touch-ups and repairs of items coated with PPG Hi-Temp 900 coating.
  • PPG Hi-Temp 770HB and 880 liquid spray insulation products, which save money and create safe-to-touch surfaces.
