Trends Discovered in Breast Health and Breast Cancer Survivor Needs
COLUMBIA, Md., Feb. 27, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A year-end analysis of site traffic and search data for Breast360.org revealed some interesting trends that may signal what patients and caregivers may need and will look for in 2019. Breast cancer survivors, their caregivers, and others who want reliable, helpful information about breast health care and breast cancer can find it at Breast360.org. Breast360.org is an award-winning patient education website written by breast care experts and hosted by the American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) Foundation.
The most read article at Breast360.org in 2018 was on breast density. This may be due, in part, to the recent advances in breast density legislation in various states throughout the U.S., which includes screening, notification, and education requirements. Also, on February 15, 2019, a federal law was signed which requires the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to develop breast density reporting language for both patient letters and provider reports.
"It is anticipated that there will be an increased need for education about dense breasts in 2019 due to these legislative developments," said Beth Boyd, RN, American Society of Breast Surgeons Foundation Chairman." Responding to this need, the Foundation posted a series of brief, informative videos from their recent patient event in Boston that cover dense breast challenges, screening options, what you need to do post-diagnosis, and survivorship.
A similar analysis of trends was conducted last year. The most read article at Breast360.org in 2017 was on fibroadenomas, common benign tumors of the breast that affect as many as 10 percent of women. Our 2017 article remained high on our top article list for 2018. Visitors also continue to most often seek information from us about breast biopsies, breast surgery, breast imaging, anesthesia options for breast surgery, tomosynthesis (3D mammography), ultrasound technology, ductal carcinoma in-situ, Idiopathic Granulomatous Mastitis (IGM), and other abnormalities seen in breast imaging.
