Caravan Health and Idaho Hospital Association Launch Statewide Collaborative ACO to Strengthen Health Care

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 3, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Idaho Hospital Association (IHA) and Caravan Health today announced Idaho's first statewide accountable care organization (ACO) for Idaho's community hospitals. In this innovative model, Idaho hospitals can work together in a collaborative Medicare ACO with the goal of providing coordinated, high quality health care and achieving greater cost efficiency. Being part of a collaborative ACO helps hospitals create, operate and manage successful population health programs, and achieve sustainable success.

IHA and its subsidiary, Healthcare Business Ventures, support hospitals and health care leaders throughout the state. In addition to working on public policy at the state and federal levels, IHA and Ventures bring a wide variety of valuable partnerships and services to its membership. A proven track record of success makes Caravan Health a perfect partner to support IHA's membership in the ongoing transition to value-based population health strategies.

In early 2019, Caravan Health launched the first-ever statewide collaborative ACO in Mississippi. In this model, the state hospital association acts as a convener to engage community hospitals with Caravan's unique methodology of population health, governance and accountability. These collaborative ACOs allow hospitals to pool lives and achieve the scale necessary for success. Since the first launch, Florida has also joined the group of statewide ACOs supported by Caravan Health.

Caravan Health's mission is helping community health systems thrive in value-based care. In 2017, Caravan Health ACOs surpassed nationwide ACO performance with total savings of over $54 million and quality scores of 94 percent.

"Caravan Health's proven methodology delivers the benefits of strong population health to communities and hospitals ready for transformation," said Lynn Barr, Caravan Health CEO and Founder. "We are looking forward to continuing our work with the highly talented team at IHA as they build this ACO. Our goal is to expand beyond Medicare into Medicaid, as Idaho continues to innovate in providing high quality health care to all Idahoans."

"This new collaboration is a great opportunity for our hospitals to progress along the continuum of care transformation and the transition to value-based payments with a trusted collaborator," said Larry Tisdale, CFO of Idaho Hospital Association. "Hospitals in Idaho are committed to providing high quality health care, building strong community connections and delivering measurable cost savings."
