Corvias Expands On-Base Housing Amenities to Include ‘Self-Help Yourself’ Centers

Corvias announced today that more than 8,000 residents of on-base housing at Fort Riley will now have access to commonly-used home operating items, available to them free and at their convenience through a new Home Help Center.

“We are working to make sure residents are satisfied, from the conditions of their homes to softer aspects, like the convenience of having supplies readily available,” said John G. Picerne, Founder and CEO of Corvias, which partners with the U.S. military for construction and management of on-base housing. In a recent annual survey, residents at Fort Riley gave Corvias an 85% approval rating, amongst the highest in the Army’s privatized housing.

“We are responding to residents’ preferences for convenience and a sense of community,” added Picerne.

Items used to help the home function, like batteries, air conditioning/heating unit filters, light bulbs and fire extinguishers, are available by bringing in the obsolete item for replacement. The center also offers additional items for pick-up, including grass seed, wall protectors and touch up paint.

“We recognize that military families, who periodically move, may not own certain supplies, like rakes, shovels and step ladders, which are also available for check-out,” said Angela Watson, Operations Director for Corvias. “On opening day, more than 35 families visited the center, many just to see what is available, some getting supplies. To serve our residents in this added capacity, to help meet their needs—the Corvias staff is delighted to do so.”

The new center, located at 380 Carter Avenue, is open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CDT.

In addition to operations and maintenance of residences, the partnership with Corvias and the U.S. Army includes the largest solar project in the entire state of Kansas, which offsets 33% of energy consumption for Fort Riley privatized housing, and employs 55% local contractors, 15% minority.
