Pre-Panelization and Virtual Design at New Energy Works Design Week Portland Event

PORTLAND, Ore., April 04, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- New Energy Works Timberframers is hosting a Design Week Portland Event, "Pre-panelization and virtual design; the creative and practical implications of offsite fabrication" with industry experts, Geoff Sosebee, Steve Burrows, and Jonathan Orpin. Representing the manufacturer perspective: Jonathan Orpin/Founder and President, New Energy Works. The builder perspective: Steve Burrows/Founding Partner, BAUMATIX. The architect/designer perspective: Geoff Sosebee/Architect, LEED AP, LEVER Architecture. Each will share knowledge, experiences, and what the future may hold for the building industry through a lively discussion.

The event will take place on April 11, 2019 from 2pm to 5pm at the company's Portland Design Studio on SE 6th Ave. Event timing: 2-2:30 PM - Meet/Greet, explore the Design Studio; 2:30-4 PM - Panel discussion with Geoff, Steve, and Jonathan; 4-5 PM - enjoy networking and one-on-one conversation with hosts and guests.

"Productivity in home framing has shown dismal to no growth for years, yet enclosure systems are one of the biggest areas to benefit from high-performance building techniques," explains Jonathan Orpin, Founder and President of New Energy Works.

Pre-panelization is gaining momentum and project designs are being further developed virtually with building modeling software. "Some say this is where potential problems can be identified and solved immediately, prior to fabrication and prior to being on-site. Others may disagree," continued Orpin. "We'll share our insights along with Geoff and Steve in what's sure to be a lively discussion."

The New Energy Works Design Studio is located at 2609 SE 6th Ave in Portland. Street parking is available. Visit the DWP Events page for more details and to register.

About DWP:
Design Week Portland is a week-long, city-wide series of programs exploring the process, craft, and practice of design across all disciplines. Our mission is to increase appreciation and awareness about design and its far-reaching effects on matters of cultural and social relevance, including community development, education systems, and the economy.

About LEVER Architecture:
LEVER Architecture work explores making, materiality, and experience using an economy of design. Great work delivered with economy requires precise architecture and a willingness to rethink how buildings are made. They challenge conventional methods of fabrication, use local and commonplace materials in unexpected ways, and pursue construction that benefits the environment and regional economy. This approach emphasizes transformation at every level of design and brings greater beauty and meaning to the final built work. They work closely with creative and mission-driven organizations to design buildings that embody their values and enrich cities.

About Geoff Sosebee:
Geoff Sosebee, Architect/LEED AP, LEVER Architecture, worked for Situ Fabrication as a Project Manager in digital fabrication prior to joining LEVER. At LEVER he has focused on projects that utilize mass timber framing, most notably Framework and The Nature Conservancy.

About BAUMATIX:
BAUMATIX is a building system designed to dramatically reduce construction time and increase quality. Much like the auto industry uses detailed design software, automation, robotic systems and high efficiency manufacturing equipment to produce vehicles, so too, BAUMATIX will manufacture buildings. In contrast to the current method of construction where raw materials are brought to the jobsite, processed into finish materials, and then installed using subpar tools that are designed primarily for mobility, BAUMATIX uses automated equipment in a controlled environment to produce fully completed wall and floor panels. BAUMATIX uses detailed Building Information Modeling software that works directly with the manufacturing facility to create large fully finished sub components of a building. Their manufacturing system eliminates much of the waste and inefficiencies that are in the current construction process.

About Steve Burrows:
Steve Burrows, Founding Partner and President BAUMATIX, CBE, is a Professional Engineer who also advises firms about the impact of change in the construction industry driven by technology. Steve is passionate about the potential for AEC in a digital future and, with BAUMATIX, is revolutionizing construction from first principles creating a quantum shift in quality and speed with a fraction of the labor and substantially lower cost.

About New Energy Works:
New Energy Works has been designing and building environmentally responsible timber frames across the USA for more than 30 years from their facilities in Oregon and New York. Offerings include: Timber Framing (design, engineering, manufacturing, and build), Enclosure Systems, Fine Woodworking, and Recycled and Sustainable Wood Products. New Energy Works has LEED AP staff members, is a member of the US Green Building Council, and is FSC-certified.

About Jonathan Orpin:
Jonathan Orpin, Founder and President of New Energy Works and Pioneer Millworks, has operated the companies under the Triple Bottom Line business model, putting equal weight on People, Planet, and Profit, for over 30 years, recently transitioning to an ESOP (employee ownership). As a thought leader throughout his career in the design/build and wood industries, Jonathan has pushed for better building efficiencies and manufacturing methods, including the development of a proprietary-and ever-evolving-pre-panelized Matrix Wall® enclosure system. Jonathan and teams continue to explore/integrate new technology such as BIM software, new materials such as wood fiber insulation, and new integrations such as mass timber and glulams in a variety of projects across the nation.
