Richmond Football Upgrades Stadium Surface to AstroTurf®

RICHMOND, Va., April 11, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Robins Stadium, home of the University of Richmond Spiders, will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary during the 2019 football season and will do so with a fresh new look as Richmond is upgrading their playing surface with a new AstroTurf premium turf system. The work will begin immediately following the lacrosse season and will be completed in time for fall football camp in early August.

"The installation of the new AstroTurf at Robins Stadium with be a great benefit to our Spider student-athletes," football head coach Russ Huesman said. "We already have one of the top facilities in FCS Football and the new turf will further enhance our standing across the country. This renovation of our facility will have a continued impact for years to come on our student-athletes."

The new turf system is one of the industry's best and will be in place for the Spiders' six-game home schedule this year. The stadium will feature AstroTurf's RootZone 3D3 Blend turf system. This premium product is AstroTurf's most popular stadium turf due to its combination of long-lasting performance and game day good looks. The RootZone 3D3 Blend integrates three unique fibers - the slit film, monofilament, and patented RootZone - into one cohesive system. Combined with a Brock Powerbase underlayment for ultimate shock absorbency, this field will deliver superior playability, safety, and durability.

"We continue to improve and upgrade our facilities here at Richmond," Vice President and Director of Athletics John Hardt said. "These improvements will bolster the student-athlete experience for our Spiders from multiple programs that use Robins Stadium. The upgrades to Robins Stadium continue our push to make our facilities among the best in the country and show the commitment we have to our Spider student-athletes."

Richmond Football competes in the Colonial Athletic Association of the NCAA's Division I Football Championship Subdivision. The Spiders will kick off their season on their new AstroTurf field on Thursday, August 29th against Jacksonville University.
