PGW Marks Earth Day with New EnergySense Grants, Calls on Developers to Get On Board

Today, Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) will officially award two new EnergySense grants, totaling $120,000, to National Real Estate Development LLC, for its new mixed-use East Market project. Each $60,000 grant is a result of energy efficiency work at East Market, including the installation of high efficiency heat and hot water boilers, the use of enhanced insulation, energy efficient windows, and low-flow fixtures. Cumulatively, this work ensures that the buildings of East Market use at least 15% less natural gas than current energy code standards require.

During the Earth Day event at East Market, PGW also issued a call for developers and building owners to step up and work with the utility on their own projects.

“More than 5,500 grants and rebates have been awarded through EnergySense,” said Florian Teme, vice president of marketing at Philadelphia Gas Works. “Those funds have helped Philadelphia to clean its air and boost its energy efficiency, and we’re not done yet. There are hundreds of thousands of dollars still available for residential and commercial customers. All you have to do to see if you qualify is to contact us.”

EnergySense is the largest, and longest-running, voluntary demand-side management program for natural gas customers in Pennsylvania. Along with PGW’s other conservation and efficiency efforts, it has helped to reduce natural gas consumption in the City by 12.9 billion cubic feet since 2011.

Sustainability is at the core of PGW’s business operations and of its future. The company continues to team up with architects, engineers and builders so more businesses and more residents have access to reliable, affordable, clean natural gas from PGW.
