Woolpert Strategic Consulting Providing Asset Management Framework, Support for CVG

CINCINNATI, April 23, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) has contracted with Woolpert Strategic Consulting to provide professional consulting services pertaining to asset management at the airport.

Under this three-year, on-call contract, Woolpert will provide an analysis of the airport's asset management program and asset information system, and conduct asset condition assessments, aligning policy, standard processes and procedures to produce guidelines specific to CVG's needs. The data within the airport's existing Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system will be reviewed, leveraged, augmented and refined, enabling the organization to utilize these tools, operate proactively rather than reactively, and make more informed business decisions for the airport moving forward.

Woolpert Strategic Consulting Project Manager Ellen Crews said the goal of the project is to develop a more strategic asset management program that will optimize operations within CVG's current and future budget constraints and improve service for CVG customers and stakeholders.

Crews has more than 30 years of experience in design, construction and asset management programs, including 15 years with airports. She serves as chair of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) Board and is a founder and current treasurer of the Airport Facilities Council of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA).

"Asset management is all about making more informed decisions regarding the built environment, and about saving money by making more informed, sound, strategic investments in the future," Crews said. "The risk is greater for airports than in most industries and requires a very cautious and specific approach. You must know that space, know that framework, and get to know the personnel involved with operating and maintaining an airport to establish effective asset management processes and procedures.

"Typically, we find that airport maintenance staff exist in a more reactionary state, resolving emergency or corrective maintenance issues as they arise. Their daily activities surround priorities that are set as airport operations occur and depending on the condition of the assets (built environment)," Crews said. "We can assess the current state of asset and personnel performance against airport goals and objectives once we gain a better understanding of the airport. Asset management is more than a software information system, it is embracing the concepts from everyone involved with operating and maintaining the airport, beginning with upper management."

Woolpert has worked with CVG for more than 20 years and has provided enterprise asset management consulting to more than 20 airports, from Atlanta-Hartsfield Jackson International to San Francisco International. Woolpert also has 22 members internationally certified by The Institute of Asset Management (IAM) and two team members who are actively involved in developing asset management standards for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) committees.

"Woolpert is unique in that it has industry-leading business, IT and geospatial consulting under one roof. This win reflects the depth of aviation asset management expertise and the key relationships of our strategic consultants, and it extends Woolpert's successful long-term relationship with CVG," said Eric Dillinger, Woolpert Strategic Consulting market director. "CVG is among the nation's largest cargo hubs, recently adding Amazon to the mix, and has complicated asset management needs. People like Ellen understand why airports of this scope make choices and know how they can improve business processes within the organization. With Ellen providing the project management and the team we've assembled, we're bringing some of the best talent in the nation together for this project."

Crews said the project will conclude with a multi-year plan that will equip CVG personnel with the in-house capabilities needed to support their long-term strategic asset management program.

This contract is now underway.
