FHE Health Announces Scholarships To Encourage More People To Enter The Addiction And Mental Health Field

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., May 9, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- At a time when the drug and suicide epidemic is at a peak in this country, more people than ever are seeking mental healthcare and not getting the help they need, thanks to a dire shortage of addiction and mental health professionals. Now, the Florida-based behavioral healthcare provider, FHE Health, is launching a new initiative to address the crisis. Starting June 15, on the heels of "Mental Health Month," FHE Health will begin accepting applications for the FHE Health "Hope for Healing Scholarship."

The $5000 scholarship will be awarded to one qualified undergraduate student and one qualified graduate student whose area of study is in mental and behavioral health or psychiatric nursing.

"Investing in the future of behavioral healthcare has always been a value that we hold dear at FHE Health, and it's an urgent priority in the face of today's addiction and mental health epidemic," said FHE Health Board Chairman Dr. Adel Abumoustafa. "Too many Americans go without any mental healthcare because there aren't enough trained professionals to help them. We want to change that reality. That's why FHE Health is offering the Hope for Healing Scholarship."

Nearly one in five people in the United States suffers from a mental illness, according to the National Institute of Mental Health; and the disease burden of mental health and substance use disorders was higher than for any other condition in 2015, the Journal of the American Medical Association reported. Meanwhile, a 2016 report by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) assessed the supply and demand for behavioral health practitioners through the year 2025, and found "significant shortages" of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists.

The Hope for Healing Scholarship aims to shine a light on that shortage, and to lead by example in addressing the problem. The scholarship is a natural extension of FHE Health's longstanding commitment to shape the future of behavioral health treatment, by training the next generation of healthcare workers. FHE Health is affiliated with multiple universities in the area, including University of Miami, Barry University, Florida Atlanta University, Florida International University, whose students learn from FHE Health practitioners in areas like social work, nursing and family and psychiatric nursing.

FHE Health is a treatment provider that delivers quality, medically integrated, and personalized behavioral healthcare to patients from all walks of life and with a wide variety of needs. From its headquarters in Deerfield Beach, Florida, FHE Health serves patients locally and from around the country with specialized treatment programs for addictive disorders and other behavioral health diagnoses such as mood disorders, depression, anxiety and traumatic disorders.
