SATELLITE 2019 Drives Space Technology Industry Forward with Historic Week

WASHINGTON, May 21, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The 38th Annual SATELLITE Conference and Exhibition was held May 6-9, 2019 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, welcoming 15,000+ connectivity professionals and 340 exhibitors from more than 100 countries around the world.

Highlights from the conference program included:

    --  Monday kicked off with the biggest keynote luncheon program in show
        history. Klaus Bruun Egeberg, Head of Mobility at Maersk, addressed how
        satellite connectivity can help drive the evolution of global autonomous
        shipping fleets. Then, Vice President Mike Pence took the stage to
        praise U.S. leadership in the booming global space industry and renew
        the Trump administration's call to stand up a new Space Force at the
        Pentagon.
    --  During Tuesday's General Session "Global Satellite Operators: The Future
        is Now," leaders from satellite operators Eutelsat, SES, Viasat,
        Telesat, Intelsat, and SES emphasized the importance of focusing on
        leveraging satellite technologies to address real world challenges,
        including the lack of basic internet connectivity in many parts of the
        world. The session also featured three moderators from three businesses
        that are interested in expanding their relationship with satellite
        operators: Southwest Airlines Associate Manager of Product Development
        Tara Bamburg, Sprint Director of Internet of Things (Iot) Strategy and
        Partner Management Akther Javid, and Sigfox Vice President (VP) of
        Europe Emma Park.
    --  Via Satellite announced Matt Desch, CEO of Iridium, as the winner of the
        prestigious 2018 Satellite Executive of the Year Award, and Intellian's
        v240MT Tri-band Antenna System as the winner of the inaugural 2018
        Satellite Technology of the Year Award during the Awards Luncheon on
        Wednesday, May 8.

    --  The 3rd Annual Startup Space pitch competition put 16 entrepreneurs on
        stage in front of a panel of judges for a chance to win guaranteed
        meetings with investors, admission to industry events and interviews in
        Via Satellite magazine. Pavel Razmajev, COO of Eventech won the Seed
        group, while Daniel Faber, Founder and CEO of Orbit Fab was the Series A
        group winner.
    --  The all-new Startup Pavilion on the show floor provided a dedicated area
        for new market entrants to showcase their innovative technologies to
        prospective investors, partners and buyers.
    --  Attendees got an insider's look at leading companies' latest products
        with live tech demos from executives at Inmarsat, RigNet, NSLComm, and
        Viasat in the SATELLITE Unveiled Theater.
