Current Music Lands The New Theme Song for NBC Sports INDY500

LOS ANGELES, May 26, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- NBC Sports is revving up their engines to broadcast the 103rd INDY500, which is scheduled to take place on May 26th. They have bumped ABC Sports who was the exclusive broadcaster for the last 54 years. NBC Sports now has a three-year contract that unifies the IndyCar Series' television rights.

To launch this exciting new deal with the INDY500, NBC Sports commissioned Current Music to create a new theme song and musically thematic sonic branding package for not only the INDY500 race, but all races in the 2019 IndyCar series.

"They were looking for an instantly identifiable, dynamic theme to debut at the INDY500 on May 26th. Something to celebrate the granddaddy of speed, while pumping our adrenaline and fueling our imagination for the remainder of the 2019 season," shared Current Music CCO Christian Salyer.

Salyer, who was the producer on this project, shared that NBC Sports ended up choosing an orchestral piece created by Current Music composer, Aram Mandossian and then asked him to turn it into a rock version, electronic version and several different variations for the rest of the season.

"We didn't have a stylistic example at the time, so we veered towards hard rock, but on steroids. Like AC/DC but with a modern production," said Mandossian.

"They also had a cool idea to incorporate some actual racing sound effects into the music. So I took some samples of cars whizzing by and used them to build tension at certain moments in the piece. It made it the music sound tailor-made for racing. "

Current Music CEO, Maddie Madsen and Mandossian also worked together last year to create the PBA pro bowling theme song for Fox, after years of working together creating original TV, Film and Advertising music.
