Lumus Announces Lenovo as First Tier 1 Customer Going to Market

NESS ZIONA, Israel, May 29, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The partnership of Lenovo, the Chinese multinational technology company, with Lumus, a leading developer of augmented reality (AR) reflective waveguide displays, has helped enable Lenovo's first enterprise AR device, the "small but mighty" ThinkReality A6 headset. Lenovo's selection of Lumus optics for its AR glasses validates the opinion of third-party experts who have long acknowledged the superiority of Lumus optics in the AR market today.

Furthermore, the launch of the ThinkReality AR headset proves the effectiveness of the business model established between Lumus and Quanta Computer, one of the world's largest original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), which marks a major step toward mainstream adoption of AR eyewear. Less than 18 months ago, in a first-of-its-kind licensing agreement, Quanta agreed to produce Lumus optical engines featuring the company's patented reflective waveguide, and to mass-produce Lumus optics for other Tier 1 OEMs and top consumer tech brands. The Lenovo ThinkReality A6 device is one of the earliest products from a top tier company to use the Lumus optical engine mass production line in Taiwan.

Aimed at the business market, the new ThinkReality A6 headset is comfortable and lightweight at 0.8 pounds (380 grams), with a separate battery. Despite its compact size, the headset offers a powerful 1080P resolution per eye and a 40-degree field of view, leading Lenovo to describe it as "small but mighty." The headset features two cameras, depth sensors, and an RGB sensor, and is designed to optimize resolution and navigation by sensing the direction the wearer is focusing on. A 3DofF controller allows users to interact with virtual environments while wearing the headset.

"When a consumer and business technology powerhouse like Lenovo chooses an optics technology for their AR device, the optics they choose have a significant impact on the performance and experience of the AR device," Lumus CEO Ari Grobman says. "We're really proud that they chose to partner with Lumus because, when it comes to outstanding performance and the ability to mass-produce AR eyewear, Lumus optics are undeniably the best option for any OEM in the AR market today."

Lumus pioneered the development of transparent near-eye displays based on its patented reflective waveguide technology, and has powered AR eyewear for more than a decade. Lumus AR display technology enables leading see-through performance, a wide field of view, and daylight readability in unobtrusive, natural-looking form-factor.
