Star Refrigeration Shortlisted for Three Prizes at the TCS&D Awards for Reducing Industry's Carbon Footprint
GLASGOW, United Kingdom, June 13, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Temperature Controlled Storage and Distribution Show kicks off on June 25, 2019 with an Awards Presentation dinner to recognize individuals and companies making a difference in the industry. Star Refrigeration has been shortlisted for three awards at the prestigious event taking place at the East of England Arena, Peterborough.
Two of Star's recent customer projects have been shortlisted for the Partnership Award - for innovative projects at Gist and The Ice Co. Additionally, David Blackhurst of Star Technical Solutions has been nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award, in recognition of his contribution to the industry over the past 29 years.

Star Refrigeration collaborated with Gist to install Europe's new refrigeration equipment at their Chesterfield warehouse which consumes less than 25% of the UK 'Best Practice' energy consumption guidelines. The installation includes two off Azanechiller 2.0 that are designed, manufactured and installed by Star, and exceed the 'Minimum Energy Efficiency Requirements' set by Europe's Ecodesign Directive by 56%.
The plant has now been fully operational for a year and energy data from site indicate that the energy usage is around one eighth of UK 'Best Practice' guidelines and one twelfth of typical cooling demands for similar stores across Europe.
Star Technical Solutions has also played an important role in helping to reduce the environmental impact of existing refrigeration plants. Its award winning energy management software Ethos has been installed UK-wide with significant results. The partnership with The Ice Co has saved the distribution center 310 tonnes of CO2 per year as well as cutting energy costs.

As the Managing Director of STS since its inception in 2005, David Blackhurst has been nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award by his colleagues. At the helm of the consultancy business Star Technical Solutions, David has personally helped deliver innovative and efficient cooling solutions to customers in the UK and around the world. He has also played a key role in the development of Ethos, as well as the UK's first ammonia Thermosyphon system, its first CO2 / NH3 cascade coffee freeze drying plant and its first CO2 plate freezer installation. He is the author of several technical papers and the recipient of various industry awards for work carried out in the promotion and installation of energy efficient cooling systems utilising natural refrigerants, such as ammonia and carbon dioxide. He is involved with a number of national and international industry bodies and served on the steering committee of Eurammon, the board of the IIAR, the IoR Technical Committee working group revising its Cold Store Code of Practice and the steering committee of the IoR REAL Zero project, aimed at improving industry standards with regard to HFC emissions.
