NuCurrent Named Finalist in 20th Annual ITA CityLIGHTS Awards

CHICAGO, Aug. 15, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- NuCurrent, an industry leader in wireless power systems and technology development, announces that the Illinois Technology Association (ITA) named NuCurrent a finalist for the ITA CityLIGHTS Industry Disruptor Award for the second year in a row. Now in its 20th year, the ITA CityLIGHTS Awards is the premier annual event elevating and honoring achievements from the Illinois tech community. Winners of the awards will be announced at a gala event on September 12 at Morgan Manufacturing in Chicago.

The Industry Disrupter Award is presented to the company that developed or introduced an ingenious, non-traditional, and innovative product or service that has significantly disrupted its industry. This year, NuCurrent has been recognized for its MP-A17 wireless charging transmitter design which has been added to the Wireless Power Consortium's (WPC) Qi (pronounced "chee") standard for wireless charging. NuCurrent's innovative design expands the separation distance of standard Qi charging by over three times the distance, which will enable new designs in the furniture, automotive, phone accessory and charging infrastructure markets.

"It's an honor for NuCurrent to be recognized again as an industry disruptor," said NuCurrent CEO Jacob Babcock. "While companies like Apple, BMW, Ford and Samsung all adopted the Qi standard, many within the WPC said that what we were trying to do couldn't be done. But the NuCurrent team saw the opportunity and made it happen. MP-A17 extends the technology for better user experience across the industry."

After a panel of accomplished judges selects finalists, ballots open to public voting until 5:00 p.m. CST on Friday, August 16. Winners will be determined by a composite score of the judges' scores and voting by the public in all categories except the Industry Champion, which is determined solely by the ITA Board of Directors.

"This year's finalists are outstanding representatives for this banner moment in Chicago tech and two decades of CityLIGHTS Awards," said ITA CEO Julia Kanouse. "It's incredible to celebrate twenty years of the awards. The long history of the program demonstrates the maturity and vitality of our ecosystem as a whole and is a testament to the strength of the awards as an indicator to future success."
