Knollwood Military Life Plan Community Expands Admission Criteria to High-Level Federal Workforce Across the Federal Government

The Army Distaff Foundation Board of Directors voted in favor of revising the admissions criteria for prospective residents of Knollwood Military Life Plan community to include high-level federal workers with a civil service grade of GS-14 or equivalent and above. As the premier military life plan community for those 60 years of age and better in Washington, D.C., Knollwood is dedicated to serving those who have served the U.S. Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Army Distaff Foundation, Knollwood is home to military officers from all branches of the Uniformed Services and their families, and high-level civil servants in select government agencies.

GEN. John M. Keane, USA (Ret.), Chairman of the Board of the Army Distaff Foundation, shared why the Board revised the admissions criteria. “The Board of Directors believes it is important for Knollwood to be inclusive of those who have honorably served our nation, whether as a commissioned officer of the Uniformed Services, and now, senior federal civil servants with a civil service grade of GS-14 (or equivalent) and above, in select federal agencies.”

Knollwood offers Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Long-Term Care in Skilled Nursing and Memory Support. “The new criteria allows us to welcome high-level officials who have served within the Department of Defense, Department of State, Department of Justice, Department of Homeland Security, the Merchant Marine, and the federal intelligence services, including the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. Also included are prospective residents who have served in the Foreign Service in FS Class 1, 2 or 3,” added MG Timothy P. McHale, USA (Ret.), President and CEO, Army Distaff Foundation and Knollwood.

In addition, post September 11, 2001 service members with severe war-related injuries who receive Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) are now eligible.
