Cubic Drives the Conversation on Connected Vehicle Technologies at APTAtech 2019

Cubic Corporation today announced Andy Taylor, director of strategy for its Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS) business division, will bring global best practices and lead industry discussions at APTAtech: Transportation and Technology Conference, taking place September 15–18 in Columbus, Ohio. Organized by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), APTAtech is a new conference that explores how the public can use innovative technologies to better navigate transit. Taylor will represent Cubic in a panel session exploring various types of connected vehicle technologies and the importance of coordinating this technology with the transit industry.

“Connected vehicle technologies offer unprecedented functionality for increased mobility,” said Taylor. “An informed driver is a better driver and that’s the start to a smart city. Connected vehicles aren’t just sensing their surroundings but also communicating with other modes on the road. We’re partnering with traffic management and automotive manufacturers to help the industry rise to the challenges of the ever-changing transportation landscape.”

Alongside industry experts, Taylor will lead the following session and explore different types of connected vehicle technologies:

  • Connected or Not: That’s the Problem! Vehicle communication is the foundation for automated vehicles and supports near-term applications.
    • Cutting Through the Hype: Unlocking the Potential of Connected Vehicles & Infrastructure for Transit
      Date/Time:
      Monday, September 16; 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Presenter: Andy Taylor, director of strategy, CTS
Location: Fairfield, 2nd Floor, Hyatt Regency Columbus

“At Cubic we strive to not only deliver solutions for travelers so they can choose the smartest and easiest way to travel and pay for their journeys, but we also support transportation agencies and authorities, airports and institutions effectively manage demand across the entire transportation network,” said Alex Litchfield, business development director, CTS.

Cubic is focused on leading the industry with payment and information solutions and related services for intelligent travel applications that address the challenges of public transportation. Cubic is exhibiting its award-winning transportation technology at the product showcase on Monday, September 16 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center:

  • Cubic Mobile Suite: Cubic’s award-winning mobile suite offers a portable, fully integrated ecosystem of transportation information and payment capabilities to support back-end systems that enrich the travel experience for both travelers and service providers. All apps enable or support multi-modal transport, providing travelers with seamless payment capabilities and information from a single account, offering merchants a simple and convenient way to sell tickets, and empowering inspectors with the ability to check ticket validity and process mobile device-powered ticket purchases.
  • Driver Control Unit (DCU): a new intelligent management and communications device that interfaces with Cubic's NextBus real-time passenger information (RTPI) predictions, passenger counters, NextStop signage, engine diagnostics, two-way operator messaging and operator covert alarms. GPS technology and a proprietary algorithm link data from the city’s various transit vehicles and agency management systems and send it to the NextBus service center.
  • Data Management and Analytics Platform (DMAP): Cubic’s award-winning DMAP, which comes with built-in data privacy features. The de-identification engine enables secure use of data, automatically transforming sensitive and personally identifiable information (PII) into an analytics-ready dataset that can be securely consumed for operational analysis, reducing congestion and delays at terminals, increasing revenue at retail and advertising spaces, and maintaining a high quality of service to passengers while meeting increased transportation demand.
