Youth Culture and Brand Veteran Joins Yellowbrick as New Head of Brand Partnerships

NEW YORK, September 12, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The New York-based education platform Yellowbrick today announced that it has tapped Dion Walcott to head up its Brand Partnerships. In this role, Walcott will serve as the Vice President of Brand Partnerships and responsible for building relationships between Yellowbrick and consumer-facing brands to create collaborative education and social impact initiatives.

"The work we do with brands helps power our educational experiences and cast a wider net that reaches the next generation of leaders," said Yellowbrick founder and CEO Rob Kingyens. "This is an incredibly vital position for us and we consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have Dion's unique combination of youth culture, brand partnerships, and education experience leading this area for Yellowbrick."

Walcott caught the attention of Yellowbrick through his work creating greater awareness for Sneaker Culture and his ability to garner the support of brands for education-related experiences. From his home city of Toronto, Canada, he created MARTK'D, a program that uses art and sneakers as an engagement tool to unite communities and cultures; and Toronto Loves Kicks (TLK), an inner-city mentorship program that used sneaker culture to inspire at-risk kids and was adopted citywide by the Toronto School Board. He also lead all partnerships and programs for the very first sneaker exhibition held in a North American museum; which became an international traveling exhibition that visited the Brooklyn Museum (Brooklyn, NY), the High Museum of Art (Atlanta, GA), the Oakland Museum of California (Oakland, CA), and the Art Gallery of Western Australia (Perth, Australia), among others.

Having developed relationships with major brands including Adidas, Nike, Reebok, PUMA, Herschel, Footlocker, Sharpie, and Sony, Walcott will now bring his impressive knowledge and relationships to Yellowbrick, where he'll create avenues for major brands to align with the education platform across all of its programs; from Sneakers, to Fashion, to Music, and beyond.

"Throughout my career, I've always been focused on bringing people together to experience popular culture for the greater good, working with brands and institutions along with consumers, advocates, and educators," explained Walcott. "Yellowbrick allows me to continue this work and to do it in concert with major universities, forward-thinking brands, and vast communities of learners. I couldn't be more excited!"
