Applications for the AWESOME/MIT “AWE” Scholarship to be accepted September 1, 2019 – January 1, 2020

The MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics and AWESOME (Achieving Women’s Excellence in Supply Chain Operations, Management and Education), an industry-wide organization for senior-level women in the supply chain field, will offer a one-year full-tuition scholarship for a woman pursuing a graduate degree in Supply Chain Management at MIT. Applications for the 2020-2021 academic year must be submitted no later January 1, 2020.

The Supply Chain Management Residential (SCMr) program is designed for early-career supply chain professionals who want to receive advanced, specialized training in supply chain management. To be eligible for the SCMr program and the AWESOME/MIT Scholarship, valued at more than $74,000, women must have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience (3-7 years is preferred). Students with strong quantitative skills and demonstrated leadership potential, from a wide variety of backgrounds and disciplines, including engineering, science, business, economics, finance, math, and computer science, are encouraged to apply.

According to Dr. Josue Velazquez Martinez, Executive Director of MIT’s Supply Chain Management Program, "Research shows that women are especially strong at operating businesses efficiently and at the relationship-building skills that are critical to an effective supply chain. Yet women hold just 14% of executive-level jobs in the supply chain field. At MIT CTL we’re committed to preparing more women to excel in these leadership roles.”

Potential students wishing to be considered for this scholarship will note their candidacy in their MIT applications and respond to an additional question for scholarship consideration. MIT will review all applications and forward the top three finalists to AWESOME to select one recipient from the pool of candidates.

AWESOME’s Executive Director Heather Sheehan said, "The successful supply chain leaders in our community have consistently pointed to gaining further education, building skills, and adding competencies as essential steps toward attaining higher leadership levels. Through our partnership with MIT, our leaders have the opportunity to 'reach back' and encourage an emerging leader to apply for the scholarship."

The AWE Scholarship will be announced in January 2020 and the awardee will begin the SCMr program in August 2020. She also will attend the 2021 AWESOME Symposium to speak about her experience in the SCMr program and her future career aspirations.
