Illinois American Water Rehabilitates Dana Water Tank

Illinois American Water has completed rehabilitating the 68,000-gallon water storage tank located on Walnut Street in the Village of Dana. The investment of approximately $400,000 will extend the life of the 115-foot-tall storage tank and ensure safe drinking water for today and in the future.

The steel standpipe tank which was originally constructed over a decade ago was taken out of service to complete the necessary work, which included inspection and maintenance as well as painting to the interior and exterior. Throughout the project, Illinois American Water used drone technology to oversee the work.

According to John Moore, a licensed drone pilot for Illinois American Water and senior operations supervisor, the use of drone technology helps to “reduce cost and increase safety.” He continued, “We are able to get a birds eye view of our water towers and visibly inspect them from a safe distance. This technology is incredibly useful and beneficial to not only our team, but our customers.”

Jon Mase, operations supervisor for the Streator District which serves Dana, agreed. He said, “Making these investments to our infrastructure is critical. It is also critical that we do so in the most efficient way.” He added about the tower, “It looks great and will be a beautiful landmark for residents and visitors for years to come, while also serving a vital role in our water distribution system.”

The project was completed last month without impact to water service. The tank has been placed back in service.
